This is where Tesla’s products could be built: Hungarian city is the TOP 1
If all goes according to plan, Tesla’s next supercharger could be built in Siófok. The town on the southern shore of Lake Balaton in Somogy County is ahead of Oman and Florida in Tesla’s development plans. In total, there are six Hungarian cities in the list.
There are three Hungarian cities in the TOP 5 list:
- 1st: Siófok
- 4th: Kecskemét
- 5th: Szombathely
The “worst” ranking of a Hungarian city in the list is 45th, NyÃregyháza. In addition, there are two other cities in the list, ranked 12 and 13: Békéscsaba and Szolnok. Every three months, Tesla announces a vote on where to build the next supercharger in the world. The current list is available on the US car brand’s website, and people can also vote for the cities.
According to Vg.hu, the Supercharger is Tesla’s fast-charging technology that it is building for its electric cars. The network was launched in September 2012, and by December 2022, there were more than 40,000 chargers at just under 4,500 stations. There are 1,772 stations in North America, 1,801 in Asia/Pacific and 897 in Europe. Eight have been installed in Hungary so far: Szeged, Miskolc, Debrecen, Nagykanizsa, GyÅ‘r, and three in Budapest and its agglomeration.
Hungarian successes in the car industry
Much more was said earlier than establishing a supercharger. A few years ago, Hungary was on the list of countries on which Elon Musk’s company was considering building its next factory. Germany was eventually chosen for this purpose. However, the National Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) has made it clear that the Hungarian Tesla mission is not closed. Therefore, Tesla is certainly not off the HIPA map.
“I think there can be a continuation of this partnership, if only because in the last five years we have gained important references in two of the biggest megatrends in the automotive industry: electromobility and self-driving cars,”
said Róbert Ésik, then CEO of National Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA), told Vg.hu in November 2019.
A year and a half earlier, in August 2021, András Horváth, a popular YouTuber specialising in showing and testing cars, made a demonstration video of the Tesla supercharger.
One need only recall the Jaguar-Land Rover decision in 2015, which was painful for Hungary. However, it was all the more welcome when the company brought its continental engineering and procurement headquarters to Budapest three years later, wrote Vg.hu.
Hungary is at the forefront in terms of the specific location of developments; car industry is a major player in this. The interest of the Hungarian economy is to attract future-proof investment. Tesla is one of them, but other companies that are leaders in electromobility and battery production have also chosen Europe.
